Currently as of March 2011 its not as easy as before to get almost unlimited double entry Tourist Visa in for Thailand in Vientiane/Laos.

If you have three Tourist Visa already don't expect to get a another one. Even if u had the previous three Visa in previous years - they simply deny you a new Tourist Visa.

Else of course you can get the desired Visa.

Here is a description how to get to Vientiane/Laos from Bangkok:

1. 1. By plane. Not a big deal. Book a ticket and go :-)
2. By Bus - there are several Bus types. Ordinary buses as well luxury first class Buses to the Border in Nonghkai in the north of Thailand.
3. By train. The most comfortable way is by Train. If you take a second class sleeper (lower, provides more space) overnight its clean, comfortable and safe.
   By train you can avoid the masses of tourists and have all the border stuff done in the station in Nonghkai. There you leave Thailand and get into the international train which connects Nongkhai/Thailand and Thannaleng/Laos. In Thannaleng you get your Visa on Arrival. Bring US$ with you - the Visa paid in US$ (the actual amount depends on your nationality) is cheaper then paid in Thaibaht.

Guesthouse just around the corner from the Thai Embassy in Vientiane Laos - coming out from the embassy go to the right hand side to the intersection, there turn left and stay on the left hand side of the street. After about 150 or 200 meters u can find the Lako guesthouse. The rooms are big and very clean, the internet is free. Rooms including Air-con are about 500 Baht/night (as of 2010).
